Findings from the 1st EuroRoadS workshop:

Building a European Road Data Infrastructure

held on September 15th in Brussels, Belgium

The workshop was very well received. It attracted the right audience – more than 40 participants from some 30 different public and private sector organisations – and the participants showed a great interest in the project and contributed actively in the discussions.

Presentations were given on the status and expected results of the  project, user requirements and the need for a European road data solution etc. The aim of the workshop was to:

  • inform about the scope and work programme of the project,
  • present and discuss preliminary results and findings,
  • co-ordinate with related projects and initiatives,
  • and establish efficient co-operation with the reference groups, participants in surveys carried out within the project and other interested parties.

EuroRoadS at the World Congress on ITS in Japan

The EuroRoadS project was presented and discussed at the world congress on ITS in Nagoya, Japan. The Congress, with the theme "ITS for livable society", was held on October 18-23 and gathered approximately 5,000 participants including over 700 Europeans, 50,000 exhibition participants and more than 500,000 persons attended all the events relevant to ITS taking place in Japan.

The success of the Congress shows that the world is aware of the potential of ITS and believe in such systems which can provide lasting solutions for safety and multi-modal mobility.

The next world congress on ITS will be held on November 6-10, 2005 in San Francisco, USA, the congress theme will be “Enabling Transportation Choices”.- For more information: www.itsworldcongress.org

Findings from the 2nd EuroRoadS workshop on

Specification framework

held in Paris on November 2-3

The aim of the workshop was to go into detail concerning the establishment of a specification framework that will underpin interoperability in the handling of road data between organisations and countries in Europe.

The workshop, which was held at the head office of Institut Géographique National (IGN, France), attracted 17 participants from 10 different organisations. The participants represented different areas of expertise (standardisation, data modelling, quality methods, marketing, etc), which implied valuable outcomes from the workshop. Read more here!
