Business Case
Objectives
The objective is to analyse the business environment in terms of potential market and related business actors from public and private sector, cost/benefit analysis and business case. It will take advantage of the contribution of main business actors such as road authorities, national surveying and mapping agencies, and the mapping industry.
Description of work
The work package is composed of three tasks as follows:
1. Potential Market Identification
A wide range of applications will directly benefit from project results:
- Road safety, including “Advanced Driver Assistance System” (ADAS) and SpeedAlert. The analysis of ADAS applications will exploit the results of EC project NextMAP.

Mobility, including vehicle navigation and traffic information

Logistic, such as fleet management

Public transportation

Rescue and emergency operations

Road administration
The role of this task is to carry out case studies in order to analyse the potential market development from the exploitation of enhanced digital maps. Most promising applications will be demonstrated within demonstration activities (WP7).
2. Cost/benefit Analysis
Starting from existing situation, this task will analyse the impact of the new process chain of road data provision by identifying costs changes from the existing model (implementation, operation and maintenance) and the expected new revenues for the different categories of actors.
3. Business Case
On the basis of potential applications and the cost/benefit analysis, this task will explore the business case. First it will identify the commercial terms that need to be defined between actors of this public/private partnership to operate this road data provision and updating service. Then it will propose recommendations for a successful business development at the European level by means of a dedicated road map. Outputs of this task will be used by the Exploitation Plan activities (WP 9) and for the Implementation Plan (WP 8).
