Work Package 7

Demonstration

Objectives

The overall purpose is to implement a client server architecture, so that a data flow from distributed public institutions into a commercial map and a subsequent application can be demonstrated. The work package will establish efficient forms for data flow through technical infrastructure and co-operation between the concerned parties. The more detailed objectives for the work package are to:
- Show complete data chain from acquisition to final services, including change only updates,
- Integrate different levels of public administration with their specific workflow of data processing
- Show and validate the usefulness of road data specification framework,
- Support dissemination and networking through concrete implementation results in order to overcome adoption barriers.

Data acquisition Local databases EuroRoadS Server Application specific format Application & service

The EuroRoadS Server can be regarded as a middleware for geo-processing and catalogue services. It will distribute data from local (national) databases, provide processes for creating cross-boarder data and quality controls and deliver data to different applications.

Description of work

The work package will consist of the following successive tasks:

1. Technical specification of a system architecture (local database – EuroRoadS Server – Application specific database) and its components
- Inventory: existing databases and communication infrastructures. Analysis of accessible data pools
- with regards to technical abilities and semantic qualities.
- a specification of a regional client solution
- a specification of a EuroRoadS Server solution
- specification of interfaces
- specification of a quality safeguarding concept
The client solution should contain functionality for handling regional road data together with functionality for supplying the European solution with relevant data. The European server solution should consist of functionality for receiving and merging national road data into a European data set. It can be compared to a transformation tool. The solution should also include edge matching and change only updates functionality and an Internet interface. The Internet interface should give access to the metadata catalogue and make European road data available through the specified exchange format.

2. Implementation of the Server incl. quality safe-guarding processes (for data acquisition and transfer). The EuroRoadServer platform allows to enhance the quality procedures to the specific data and supplier requirements.

3. Implementation of a regional client solution.

4. Implementation of interfaces.

5. Operation of the EuroRoadS Server
Test-Operation of the geo-processing and catalogue services

6. Example Mobility Service
Operation of an off-board navigation service supplied by the up-to-date EuroRoadS geo-processing and catalogue services, reflecting the updating possibilities as well as the content from the EuroRoadS Server. The off-board navigation services will be adapted to specific content layers (e.g. a speed limit information service) supplied in EuroRoadS.
